Bequest of Insurance
Marla and Wayne purchased a life insurance policy years ago to ensure financial security for their children. As time passed, their children grew up, built successful careers, and became financially independent. The original purpose of the policy had been fulfilled.
- Marla: "We've always admired UVU's commitment to student success. As volunteers and supporters, we saw how scholarships could open doors for students - especially those who are the first in their families to attend college. We wondered if our life insurance policy could help support that mission."
- Wayne: "I wasn't quite ready to give up the policy. I wanted to keep it available in case our family ever needed extra support. But we both hoped there was a way to make a meaningful commitment to UVU now, while still preserving flexibility."
After speaking with UVU's gift planning team, Marla and Wayne learned they could make a bequest of their life insurance policy simply by naming Utah Valley University as the beneficiary. This allowed them to commit to supporting UVU's future without giving up control of the policy during their lifetime.
- Marla: "It was the perfect solution. We could continue to hold the policy, but also know that one day it would help students achieve their dreams."
- Wayne: "And the potential estate tax benefits were a bonus. It helps preserve other assets for our family while still making a lasting impact."
Their future gift will establish a scholarship fund at UVU, helping students access education, pursue meaningful careers, and build better lives for themselves and their families. Through their thoughtful planning, Marla and Wayne are creating a legacy that will empower generations of Wolverines.
